Countries Medical Marijuana is Legal

There are some countries where it is illegal to use marijuana for recreational purposes, but it can be prescribed for medical reasons. The countries that medical marijuana can  be prescribed by a physician do include the United States, but it is only legal in certain states, not every state. In the United States there are sixteen of the fifty states that have made it legal to buy a certain amount of medical marijuana and smoke it. These states are Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and the District of Columbia.

Medical marijuana can be prescribed by physicians in Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Finland, Italy, Spain, Israel and Portugal. There are certain requirements before a physician can prescribe medical marijuana, which includes being a resident of the state in the United States and provided a card to prove it is a legal prescription.
